The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation

The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation is a philanthropic organization committed to building a more just, verdant, and peaceful world. We achieve this by thoughtfully supporting creative individuals, effective institutions, and influential networks. Our work addresses some of humanity’s most pressing social challenges, including efforts to reduce over-incarceration, mitigate global climate change, minimize nuclear risk, and significantly increase financial capital for the social sector. This commitment is further exemplified through the MacArthur Fellows Program, our dedication to journalism’s role in democracy, strengthening our home city of Chicago, and generating new knowledge on critical issues.

Based in Chicago, our headquarters fosters a culture of collaboration and forward-thinking impact. We believe in the power of courageous investments to drive truly significant progress across our focus areas. We are proud to support groundbreaking work that creates lasting change, and we invite you to explore our initiatives and join us in our mission.
