Staff Accountant – Full Time | Museum of Discovery and Science

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at the Museum of Discovery and Science. The museum serves as a center for scientific exploration and learning, engaging the community through interactive exhibits and educational programs. This position is crucial in ensuring the accurate and compliant financial operations that support the museum’s mission. The Staff Accountant plays a key role in maintaining robust accounting records and contributing to the museum’s sustained impact.

• Mission: Owns daily accounting operations, ensures accurate financial records, and supports comprehensive financial reporting in compliance with GAAP.
• Tech Stack: Excel, Windows-based software, Sage MIP Accounting (preferred), Altru software (preferred)

What You’ll Actually Do
• Operations: Administer daily accounting operations efficiently and effectively.
• Reconciliations: Conduct comprehensive revenue reconciliations to ensure accuracy.
• Entries & Analysis: Generate and post monthly journal entries, alongside performing detailed account analysis.
• Cash Management: Manage the processing of cash receipts and execute remote bank deposits.
• Reporting Support: Support the Controller in month-end close procedures, financial reporting, reconciliations, audit preparation, and the maintenance of accurate accounting records in accordance with GAAP.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, providing a strong foundation in core accounting principles and practices.
• Experience: Minimum one year of professional accounting experience, demonstrating practical application of accounting knowledge.
• Skills: Advanced computer literacy with proficiency in Excel and other Windows-based software, excellent English verbal and written communication skills, highly organized with strong attention to detail.
• Bonus: Proficiency in Sage MIP Accounting and Altru software is preferred.
